My ongoing interests revolve around two areas of research in the Silurian System. I am integrating various data (on fossil communities, trace fossils, storm beds, physical unconformities, and chemical isotopes) in order to improve a global Silurian sea-level curve. Of particular interest to me are unconformities that represent rocky shorelines drowned by marine transgression. These provide a means to evaluate original paleorelief that can be used as a guide to absolute changes in Silurian sea level. Secondly, I am interested in the paleoecology of Silurian rocky shores, particularly the facies differences that occur around the perimeter of paleoislands. Where preserved in the rock record, these facies differences may reflect prevailing patterns of atmospheric and oceanic circulation.
